In most of the other Colonies the Official Assignee, Official Administrator, Official Trustee (if any), Sheriff, Registrar of Companies (if any), Appraiser, Bailiff of Summary Court, &c., &c., or some of them are paid by fees. In no other Colony that I am aware of have all these duties become centred in the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

In British Guiana, which is the only Colony in which all or most of the fees of the above or similar offices appear to be paid into the Treasury, it appears from the Colonial Office List,

In Mauritius, there are 4 Clerks to the Judges whose salary may amount to,

The Official Assignee receives fees, and no Sheriff or Marshal or similar officer is

mentioned.

There are besides numerous district Courts performing the work of the Summary side of the Supreme Court.

For the Straits Settlements the returns are incomplete.

The Registrar or Deputy Registrars, if appointed Official Assignee or Official Administrator, take fees which used sometimes to my knowledge to be considerable. No Registrar of Companies, no Appraiser, no Official Trustee appear to have been appointed. But returning to the present subject, I have to point out that the Deputy Registrars, even if they receive the salaries proposed by the Governor, will not receive more than was received by the Deputy Registrar during the last five) that HUFFAM
